In mid-June, under the guidance of our partner, the Anton Melik Geographical Institute of ZRC SAZU, we conducted the first fieldwork within the Karst Firewall 5.0 project. The project focuses on two main challenges in the program area: preventing forest fires and managing them effectively. The aim is to develop innovative action plans to preserve the health of the karst territory and increase its resilience.
The first step in achieving these goals was to explore the territories of the municipalities of Miren-Kostanjevica and Comune di Duino Aurisina – Devin Nabrežina, where these plans will be implemented. This area suffered severe fires two years ago. Representatives of the Anton Melik Geographical Institute of ZRC SAZU examined the area and collected initial data, which will be later analyzed and will help in developing solutions. They carried out geodetic surveys of the targets and, using the BLK2FLY drone, captured a point cloud of the area.
After the fieldwork, a project partners meeting was held at the Municipality of Miren-Kostanjevica.
